The question I am asking is not whether you can lose weight, if you know how to, not even if you have the right program to help you lose that weight. Losing weight comes down to one thing and one thing only. Do you WANT to lose weight? This is all there is to it. If you don’t really want to lose weight then you will put up barriers that will stop you from achieving long lasting weight loss. These might be physical or psychological barriers – but they will prevent you losing weight all the same.

So, once you have decided that you do really want to lose weight… yes that you REALLY want to… here are some steps that will help you to achieve this.

Identify A Realistic Goal

Set yourself a goal in relation to your weight loss. Make sure it is realistic and achievable. Many people set unrealistic weight loss goals and destine themselves to failure from the outset. If you fail in the initial stages of your program it is easy to get put off weight loss for the long term.

Learn From Past Experiences

Chances are you have tried many things in the past to lose weight. I imagine there have been fad diets, extreme calorie restriction efforts and various exercise regimes. The best thing that you can do if you are looking to lose weight is to learn from these past experiences. If you have tried a certain diet that has not worked for you… don’t do it again. If you have tried extreme calorie restriction then you will know that this doesn’t work for long term weight loss. Perhaps there have been a couple of types of exercise that you particularly enjoyed or had some success with in the past – incorporate them again.

Form A Support Group

Achieving your weight loss goals or aspirations can be very difficult. You need to surround yourself with support. This might be through friends, family, or it might be a person of group of people you have not even met yet that are trying to achieve the same goal. Whoever you rely on for support – make sure you steer clear of the unsupportive kind as they are likely to lure you away from achieving your desired outcome.

Focus On Health First

Don’t focus on weight loss. Focus on consistently working towards being healthy. Focus on healthy eating, good food, a good level of consistent exercise. Do not get captivated on the ongoing pursuit of weight loss. Focus on health, stick at it and you will end up feeling good and looking good to.

Call them fat, overweight or obese, by whatever name you tag them it means more or less the same thing to a varying degree. If you belong to this class however you belong to the majority. However, this is a case where being in the majority might not be the best.

It has been recently estimated that about 65% of the population of America is overweight with about 30% in the obese category in addition about 15-20% of the country’s children are overweight. Putting a global outlook on this issue it has been revealed that obesity is spreading to nations with hitherto low rate of obesity like China and Japan.

The most important thing is how obesity or fatness affects your health.

Using the body mass index you are considered overweight if your index is read between 25 and 29 if it is over 30 you are regarded as obese. It is a general rule, more than 25% body fat for men and 32% body mass for women is considered obesity.

People are likely to be overweight because of the following reasons:

(i)General inactivity; not involved in any form of exercise.

(ii)Genetically inherited; offspring of fat parents will likely be fat

(iii)Overeating: people who eat a lot will be very fat

(iv)People with psychological problems may be overweight.

(v)People who have slow metabolism rate will most likely suffers from weight problems.

There are health hazards associated with this state of obesity, scientists have determined that of ideally 20% body mass constitute a health hazard. It also leads to reduced life expectancy. Obesity also increases stress on the body joint, the risk of surgery and increases the risk factor for heart diseases. Finally, more overweight people suffer from diabetes than slim people.

Health specialists had argued that all these risk factors are improvable by weight loss. That a weight loss of about 10% can improve the risk factors for heart diseases by 20%. Again, it has been proved that the greatest health benefits are seen by losing the first 20 pounds which means though it is hard to implement a daily weight loss guide program it s still in your interest to do so.

Weight loss is easily achieved if you set smaller easily achievable goals and when you get that goal move to the next goal. You can for 1-2 pounds weight loss in the first week and strive for more weight loss in coming weeks. You might attempt losing about 20 pounds in about six months or about 20% of your body mass.

In conclusion, no matter the reasons for obesity it can mostly be overcome by adopting the proper diet and doing exercises.

The likely causes for obesity. Most of these can be overcome by lowering the fat in the diet and by exercising.

Obesity is included into the most dangerous and deathly disease, for it can cause several kinds of diseases, which can lead the sufferer to permanent paralysis, and even death. And unfortunately, obesity is somewhat getting more and more popular these past few years, for some reasons. But the main and ultimate reason of obesity is modern and unhealthy life style. In this modern life, people are now well acquainted with so-called stress at work, which can cause the body circulation does not work properly.

Hence, it can cause fat and other dangerous substances cannot be processed well. Other cause of obesity is the instant and fast food available nowadays. People with thigh work schedule cannot surely prepare their own food, so they are buying and consuming fast food, all the time; on breakfast, lunch, and even on dinner. Fact is, fast food can be very much dangerous for they consist of much oil, much fat, less fiber, and fewer vitamins. Hence, many people are now suffering from obesity; what these people does not seem to know is that obesity can cause many dangerous and common diseases. Here they are.

The first common and dangerous disease caused by obesity is cardio diseases or popularly known as heart diseases, including broken heart and heart failure. According to several studies from all over the world, heart disease is the frequent murderer of human, for more than 5 percent people died due to this disease every year; it gain numbers every year. Heart disease is commonly caused by cholesterol, which is potentially causing blood vessel to narrowing, and also covering the tissue of human’s heart.

The second common disease caused by obesity is reproduction diseases, such as infertility, menstrual disorders, diabetes mellitus, and so forth. This is mainly dangerous for women, for obesity can cause them to not be able to pregnant and give a birth. Hence, women who suffer from obesity are to cure and heal their obesity before they get married, so they will be able to have a baby.

The third common disease that is mainly caused by obesity is neuron diseases, such as stroke, migraines, sclerosis, and other diseases dealing with neurology. This kind of disease is usually suffered by those who are working hard, and even have no time to take care of their body. Businesspersons, executive, and workers are groups of people who are commonly suffering neuron diseases caused by obesity.

The fourth common disease is rheumatic diseases, such as arthritis, gout, low back pain; these diseases are usually suffered by women with obesity. There are also many kinds of diseases caused by obesity, such as respiratory disorders (such as snoring and lung diseases), and depression, stress, and other psychological diseases.

However, all of those diseases have the exact similarity; they can cause people’s life quality to greatly decreased, so they feel like live a useless life. Hence, people with obesity are to find an effective treatment at immediate. Nowadays, indeed, there are many things people can do to treat their obesity, either by medical treatment or by natural treatment.

It is important to have an exercise routine done daily or three or four days a week. However, sometimes some of us do not have time to exercise every day so we just exercise longer on the days we do have time. You may think this is a good idea but it can actually lead to you feeling hungrier after exercise and eating more which contributes to more weight gain. It is best to work out at least twenty minutes every day or three or four times a week. This will also help you to maintain your weight once the extra pounds are off.

It is also a good idea to eat before and after a workout or exercise routine. This will help give you plenty of energy for the activity and keep your blood sugar levels normal so you can avoid feeling really hungry and then possibly overeating. It is also important to drink water before, during, and after a work out to keep your body well hydrated. Also, to help avoid overeating, try eating five to six small meals a day instead of eating too much at one or two big meals. This will help replenish your body and make you feel good without eating too much.

Finally, getting plenty of sleep each night and finding ways to reduce stress like reading a book, spending time with friends or family or taking warm bathes at the end of a hard day. These things can help you be less likely to snack between meals and eat more sugar than is good for your body and mind. These tips can not only help you get rid of extra weight, but also maintain a healthy weight and help you to feel better about yourself in the long run.

In today’s world every one wants to stay fit and fine. Being over weight can often be a problem for a large number of people. It can be the reason of several types of illness in one’s body. That is the reason many of the people wants to loose a few kilos of their weight. There are several methods that can help one to lose their excess fat. One such method of losing weight is performing regular exercises. It can prove out to be very useful for a person who wishes to attain a toned figure.

Many different types of exercises are there to be followed by a person so as to loose some extra fat and lead a healthy life. These exercises are normally very easy one to be performed. They are like the ordinary activities that one can perform on their own. It helps in burning the excess fat in one’s body thus making him look even more fit than ever. There are a huge range of exercises that one can choose from. It helps a person to maintain fitness of body as well as mind.

The first type of exercise that can help one attain a leaner look is strength exercises. These strength trainings do not give one huge muscles. Rather what it does is, it helps one to increase the basic metabolic rates of one’s body. It also tones one’s muscles to some extent and increases bone mass which helps one to have a leaner look.

Strength trainings should be accompanied by another kind of exercise known as aerobics. It can help one to strengthen his lungs and heart. A strengthened lungs and heart can provide one with more efficient utilization of oxygen. Thus increasing the fat reduction as well as maintaining bone mass.

Aerobics is one of the types of exercises which helps in increasing the breathing and heart rate. It also helps in muscle toning which is one of the key elements for achieving a slim figure. Some of the very good forms of aerobics are aerobic dance, bicycling, stepping, swimming, walking etc. One can chose any of these forms of simple exercises depending upon one’s physical conditions, genetic types, family history, aim of life etc. it is advised that one should follow at least two of these methods of exercises related to aerobics.

Some these exercises related to aerobics are normally performed by each and every person in his day to day life. For example all of us walk a few kilometers each and every day in normal conditions. Walking is a very good habit and can make one feel much better both mentally as well as physically. It is even preferred over jogging or running by the doctors. Same amount of calories are burnt in walking as is burnt in case of jogging or running. However it is much more comfortable for the body to perform.

Another very good type of exercise related to aerobics is climbing the stairs regularly. Instead of using a lift, if one tries to climb the stairs on his own it can help him to loose a few amount of excess calories that is otherwise accumulated in his body. Using a treadmill or even one’s bicycle can also help one to loose a huge amount of excess fat.

Thus it is seen that performing certain normal regular exercises daily can actually help one to loose a huge amount of one’s weight. One does not need to move out of one’s house in order to perform such exercises. They can be performed even at one’s own house. The only things that are needed are will power and determination. If one has that will power of doing something, he will definitely get the rewards for that.

What you need to know now to protect yourself from heart attack and enjoy a longer, more fruitful life.

When we think of a heart attack, we picture an old man, clutching his chest as he staggers. But this is a dangerously misleading view. According to a newspaper article, heart disease is the leading cause of death, deaths in government hospitals showed that about one in six females died of cardiovascular disease as opposed to about one in 48 females who died of breast cancer.

While there are factors like family history and the natural ageing process that put us at risk, there are many things we can do to protect our heart.

Risk Factor 1: Weight Issues.
The Asia Pacific guidelines consider someone with a BMI (body mass index) of over 23 kg / m2 overweight, and over 27.5 kg / m2, obese (the World Health Organisation classifies over 25 kg / m2 as overweight, and over 30 kg / m2 as obese).
Studies in Asia show that morbidity is at much lower BMI values. Asians have a higher body fat percentage than Caucasians with a similar BMI.
Being overweight often makes one susceptible to health problems. Besides the BMI, the size of your waist is also. A bigger waist means excessive body fat around the abdomen and chest which surrounds internal organs, like the heart. For this reason, people with bigger waists have a higher risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. When your waist – to – hip ratio (size of waist divided by side of hips) is more than than 0.85, you’re classified with central obesity which is closely linked to cardiovascular disease, especially in women.

Cut Your Risk: Weight tends to pile on when we eat too much and exercise too little. Instead of jumping on the latest fad diet, learn to make little changes that will improve your health and keep your weight in check in the long run. A dietitian can help you work out a healthy eating plan, by giving you tips on how to improve your diet.
Regular exercise helps women cut their risk of coronary heart disease. Half an hour of physical activity per day is important as it keeps your body weight in control and gives additional heart health benefits. A recent study published in the New England Journal Of Medicine found that women who brisk – walked for at least three hours a week reduced their heart attack risk by as much as 40 per cent; walk for five hours a week and the protective effect hits the 50 per cent mark. You can also up activity levels by cycling, dancing, swimming and having sex.
Incidental exercise is a good way of upping activity levels too, like taking the stairs instead of the lift, getting off the bus a few stops before your destination, taking a brisk walk when you feel the urge to snack, carrying your own groceries, and increasing your pace when doing household chores.

Risk Factor 2: High Blood Pressure.
Hypertension is a major risk factor for heart disease and heart failure, so it’s very crucial to have regular blood pressure (BP) check – ups. While pressure level of 120/80 mmHg to 139/89 mmHg used to be considered within “normal” limits, new US standards classify even this as “prehypertensive”, which is actually a condition that can lead to stroke, heart attack and kidney failure. Those whose BP fall between 130/80 and 139/89 mmHg have increased risk of complications due to hypertension, especially when there are associated risk factors like diabetes, high cholesterol levels or a family history of premature heart disease.

Cut Your Risk: If you fall into this category, you should consider it a serious “wake – up call”. If you are diagnosed with high blood pressure, you may be given medication, and told to lose weight, exercise more and cut salt intake. However, one study found that the reduction in hypertension resulting from a low – salt diet was so significant, some patients were able to avoid taking medication. Therefore, learn to season food with herbs and spices, and instead of using salt laden stock cubes, make your own stock. Beware of pre – prepared foods too – always read labels for their fat and salt or sodium content.

Risk Factor 3: Cholesterol Build – Up.
We need cholesterol, a fatty substance found in blood, to function, but when we consume excess cholesterol from saturated fat, it builds up in the walls of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. When the blood can’t pass through, a heart attack or stroke occurs. There’s “bad” cholesterol, called low – density lipoprotein (LDL), which clogs blood vessels, and “good” cholesterol, or high – density lipoprotein (HDL), which protects the heart by unclogging blood vessels. Total cholesterol should be less than 200 mg/dl, LDL should be less than 100mg/dl, and HDL should be above 40mg/dl.
HDL cholesterol is closely and inversely linked with heart disease. This is especially so in the case of people who have metabolic syodrome. Also called Syndrome X, people with this have a cluster of risk factors for heart disease and stroke, and although it’s not clear how it is brought on, studies show it’s linked with insulin resistance. The same factors that cause insulin resistance also raise blood pressure and increase the body’s levels of harmful LDL cholesterol as well as other blood fat.
The problem faced by people who suffer from Syndrome X is that they may feel fine as their total cholesterol levels appear normal, but their LDL is high while HDL is low.

Cut Your Risk: Reducing your weight and exercising more will help you cut bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. Reducing bad cholesterol by 15 per cent cuts your risk of heart attack or stroke by 15 per cent; and raising good cholesterol by 8 per cent cuts the risk by 20 to 25 per cent. Reduce the amount of saturated fat in your diet by eating less fatty meat, deep – fried food, cakes, biscuits, burger, chips and full – fat dairy products. Imagine your arteries as a pipe in your kitchen sink. While saturated fats (the ones that are solid at room temperature) clog your pipes, healthy fats like olive and canola oils flow right along, and complex, fibre – rich carbohydrates sail through too, and even help reverse some clogging that’s already built up. So, it helps to consume more vegetables, fruit and wholegrains. Fibre is so good for your heart that recent studies have shown that boosting your intake by just 10g a day (think two slices of wholewheat bread and an apple) cuts the risk of a heart attack by 14 per cent.

Risk Factor 4: Diabetes.
Diabetes is a big risk factor for women. With diabetes, a woman loses all her premenopausal protection from heart disease and so, her risk of developing heart disease is five to six times higher compared to a non – diabetic. This risk is even worse for men and is equivalent to that of a person who has had a previous heart attack. Doctors also acknowledge that metabolic syndrome is a vital early sign that you’re high risk of developing diabetes; and having Type 2 diabetes puts you at the same risk as someone who’s already had a heart attack.

Cut Your Risk: Type 2 diabetes is primarily a lifestyle disease with prevent – able risk factors. A new study shows that obese people are up to 80 times more likely to develop the disease than those who maintain a healthy weight. To help turn things around, try to reach your ideal weight by eating healthy and increasing physical activity. Get your blood pressure and cholesterol level under control and have your blood glucose levels monitored by your doctor.

Risk Factor 5: Stress & Depression.
If your stress isn’t productive, or if you’re prone to depression and anxiety, research shows you’re at increased risk of heart disease. Unhealthy responses to stress such as overeating, smoking and substance abuse can also add to your risk. Stress can lead to high blood pressure, lack of exercise, overeating and smoking, and these can lead to heart disease. A Japanese study found that highly – stressed women had double the risk of heart disease and stroke than women with less stress. Being depressed and lonely may also predispose one to heart problems.

Cut Your Risk: Find positive ways to reduce stress in your life. Tackle tasks one at a time. Multi – tasking may seem like a necessity these day, but studies show it can put more strain on your brain leading to elevated stress which raises chemicalls like adrenaline in the blood that increase blood pressure and heart rate, and these can chip away at heart over time. So, learn to delegate and say “no”.
Find simple ways to de – stress, such as taking a walk or meditating, and doing gentle exercise like yoga and tai chi. Spending time with friend can also be therapeutic, research suggests women who have a strong network of friends have less hypertension and are less likely to die of a heart attack, as they probably have an outlet to vent anxieties.

It’s well accepted that reduced physical activity and fast food are linked to obesity. But the evidence that these are the main causes of obesity is largely circumstantial. To stimulate debate, experts suggest 10 other possible causes of obesity, outlined in the International Journal of Obesity.

1. Sleep debt. Getting too little sleep can increase body weight. Today, many get less shut-eye than ever.
2. Pollution. Hormones control body weight. And many of today’s pollutants affect our hormones.
3. Air conditioning. You have to burn calories if your environment is too hot or too cold for comfort. But more people than ever live and work in temperature-controlled homes and offices.
4. Decreased smoking. Smoking reduces weight. People smoke much less than they used to.
5. Medicine. Many different drugs including contraceptives, steroid hormones, diabetes drugs, some antidepressants, and blood pressure drugs can cause weight gain. Use of these drugs is on the upswing.
6. Population age, ethnicity. Middle-aged people and Hispanic-Americans tend to be more obese than young European-Americans. Americans are getting older and more Hispanic.
7. Older moms. There’s some evidence that the older a woman is when she gives birth, the higher her child’s risk of obesity. Women are giving birth at older and older ages.
8. Ancestors’ environment. Some influences may go back two generations. Environmental changes that made a grandparent obese may “through a fetally driven positive feedback loop” visit obesity on the grandchildren.
9. Obesity linked to fertility. There’s some evidence obese people are more fertile than lean ones. If obesity has a genetic component, the percentage of obese people in the population should increase.
10. Unions of obese spouses. Obese women tend to marry obese men, and if obesity has a genetic component, there will be still more obese people in the next generation.

These other contributing factors deserve more attention and study. Even more explanations include: a fat-inducing virus; increases in childhood depression; less consumption of dairy products; and hormones used in agriculture. What do you think can be attributed to the epidemic?

Studies have suggested that obesity and heart disease are two inseparable conditions. Obesity has an aggravating effect on atherosclerosis, which is one form of heart disease.

Obesity is an increasingly common metabolic disorder that affects not only U.S. population but the developing world as well. The third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III 1988-1991) estimates about thirty-three percent of U.S. population is obese as compared to previous (1976-1980) survey that only showed twenty five percent.

Studies have suggested that obesity and heart disease are two inseparable conditions. Obesity has an aggravating effect on atherosclerosis, which is one form of heart disease. This becomes especially true when the distribution of the body fat is located in the middle of the body, the gut, and the love handles.

Until lately, the connection between obesity and heart disease was observed as indirect. Long-term studies however, point out that obesity not only relates to but separately predicts coronary atherosclerosis. This relationship between obesity and heart disease appears to exist for both men and women.

Obesity may have some genetic factors associated with it but oftentimes it could be prevented and reversed with little effort. Obesity may start from childhood mostly connected to dietary factors such as poor eating habits, high sugar intake, and high fat diet. Other factors would include insufficient exercise, stress, and family history. Later in life, obesity becomes an independent factor associated with high blood pressure, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, and heart disease problems.

Obesity and heart disease presents increased health risks and life-threatening conditions. Obesity is now distinguished to be a key factor for coronary heart disease which can lead to heart attack. It raises blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, lowers the “good” cholesterol HDL, raises blood pressure levels, and induces diabetes.

Even when there are no unpleasant effects on known risk factors, obesity and heart disease risk increases. Its major cause could not only be on the heart and blood vessels but it can also cause gallstones and worsen degenerative joint disease.

To improve ones cardiovascular health, weight loss is needed and is a high priority of the American Heart Association. An obese person needs to get a personal food plan that takes into account the current eating habits, lifestyle, ethnicity, energy needs, culture, diet prescription related to medical treatment, and potential nutrient drug interactions.

Getting exercise as well as making the right choices in the eating habits will help one loose weight. Not only does loosing weight improve health, but improves ones outlook in life as well. Feeling better about yourself because of being able to do things that you were not able to do when fighting the terrible disease of obesity, is just one of the rewards you’ll get. An improved emotional health can do a world of good to the heart as well. Lowered stress levels and feeling better about yourself are the main factors of heart health. Stopping obesity and heart disease calls for prevention as the main key.
