Many people with illnesses such as high blood pressure are loathe to be put on medication for a number of reasons. The main one, however, is that many feel that artificial drugs interfere with the immune system. As a result, it is becoming more and more popular for patients to look for more naturalistic ways of treating their disease. One way that a number of patients have gravitated towards is using garlic or garlic supplements to lower their blood pressure. Garlic is considered by many to be a miracle herb. It is one of the most popular cooking spices in the world. In addition, throughout history it has been used by many cultures to treat a variety of diseases. In modern times, various concoctions of it has been used to treat diseases as serious as cancer to as trivial as colds. For hypertension, most nutritionists recommend that you take one clove of garlic a day. When used for medicinal purposes, it is usually best to eat it raw. Cooking it at too high of a temperature destroys the enzymes and many of the nutrients. However, if you slow cook it at below 110 degrees Fahrenheit, you will preserve the enzymes and most of the vitamins and minerals. For those bothered by the harsh taste of raw garlic, cooking it this way will also moderate its intense flavor. Those who enjoy the full flavor of garlic, however, can eat the peeled clove raw. Alternatively, they can crush it with a garlic press, mix it in a liquid such as water, and drink the concoction. And, those with a culinary flair can crush the garlic and spread it on toast or eat it with other foods. Some people, however, even those who like it, don’t want to eat garlic because it does seep through your pores when you sweat and can cause you to give off an odor. For these people, garlic pills may be a good solution as they have also been proven to be effective in treating hypertension. Hypertension is nothing to toy around with. If you are thinking of using alternative means of lowering your blood pressure, talk to your doctor first. This way he can advise against certain treatments that may interfere with the treatments that he already has you on. And, secondly, if he approves of your treatments, he can monitor your progress to see if they are actually effective or not.
There are a lot of things that can cause blood pressure to be higher than normal. Some you can’t control, but there are a few you can. As hypertension is a silent and deadly hazard, knowing all you can could prevent a tragedy in your life. There are four levels of blood pressure readings. According to the Mayo Clinic, any reading under 120/80 is normal. Between 120/80 and 139/89 is called prehypertension. Stage one is from 140/90 to 149/99 and second stage is 150/100 and higher. As I mentioned, there are two types of causes, those you can do something about and those you can’t. While you should be aware of both types, it’s wise to concentrate on what you can change. It will make what you can’t less likely to be a problem. Heredity: While the wit who commented that you can "choose your friends but not your family" probably referred to more social aspects of familial relationships, it comes true with heredity as well. If you have at least one first degree relative with high BP, you are more likely to develop it. If it runs back in an unbroken chain, well, it’s even more likely. By the way, first degree relative means a parent or sibling. Lack of Exercise: This is both about weight loss and about how your body is designed to need movement. While exercise will temporarily cause your numbers to go up, after you’ve cooled down, they should settle into a more normal level. Lack of Sleep: I’ve heard people brag about being able to chug along just fine with limited sleep and I have to wonder if they think this is a good idea. Study after study shows that we need an average of seven hours of sleep minimum to stay healthy. Less opens the doors for all kinds of serious health problems, including hyptertension. Obesity: The more you weigh, the harder your heart has to work to get blood to all parts of the body. This increased workload also increases the pressure. As most of us who are overweight have high cholesterol, this just adds to the problem. Poor Diet: If you consistently consume foods high in simple carbs, fat and cholesterol, you are at increased risk. Sodium: There’s good news and bad news here. If you have normal readings, a little extra salt may not be bad for you. However, if you already have the problem, it will cause the numbers to go up. Smoking: Like sodium, smoking does not cause high blood pressure. However, it will increase the risk of heart disease and it can affect readings in those who already have the condition. This is because it narrows blood vessels while the chemicals from the tobacco are in your body. Stress: Deadlines, layoff threats and many other worries are a constant in our lives. Unfortunately, these stressful events are also bad for our BP numbers. If you have one or more of these risk factors, it’s a good idea [...]

Oftentimes we are concerned with the feasibility of exercising when suffering from an ailment. For patients of high blood pressure (hypertension) this is of even greater concern, with questions surrounding their body’s ability to endure the rigors of this increased activity and the wisdom of subjecting it to this additional pressure. This need not be of concern. In fact if you’re suffering from high blood pressure, moderate to medium exercise can be one of the most effective ways of controlling it. Consider that the heart is a muscle and similar to all other muscles, it maintains or increases strength with regular activity and loses its elasticity with inactivity and age. Exercise not only improves your cardiovascular system but can help in lowering your cholesterol and maintaining a healthy body weight, both of which are contributors to hypertension. Although it is unclear as to exactly how exercise contributes to a lowering of high blood pressure, one of the prevailing theories is that exercise (aerobic) reduces insulin and insulin resistance, two of the factors associated with the development of hypertension. It’s also undeniable that regular physical activity strengthens the heart, the stronger the heart the lower the amount of effort needed to pump blood thus decreasing the strain on your arteries and lowering your blood pressure. Research has continuously shown that cardiovascular diseases are more prevalent among those individuals who are least fit, with hypertension being 30% to 50% more likely to occur. Exercise programs are slotted into two distinct categories: Aerobic and Anaerobic. Aerobic exercise strengthens and enlarges the heart muscle along with the muscles of the respiratory system. The end result being that your cardiovascular system is strengthened, while your stamina and overall strength is increased. The decrease in your heart rate will, by extension lead to a decrease in your blood pressure over time. Anaerobic exercise on the other hand is useful in building: strength, muscle mass and speed, while also increasing the metabolic rate and is deemed to be more beneficial to athletes. All physical activity which increases your heart and breathing rate can be considered aerobic, including such everyday activities as: bicycling, walking, dancing, climbing the stairs, mowing the lawn, raking leaves etc. More formal and structured forms of exercise include: basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis and racquetball among others. These types of activities are suggested for persons who would be more comfortable in participating in team activities or who may benefit from the support and encouragement of others. Yoga, Tai Chi chuan or any other form of martial arts could also be beneficial. For the patients of high blood pressure (hypertension) it’s important to remember that the aim is to participate in moderate forms of exercise. Moderate implies that you must exert yourself a little without getting too out of breath. Your choice of exercise should be one which you like to do and can be incorporated into your daily routine without too much difficulty. Doing so would insure its longevity.
Your choice of exercise should be one which you like to do and can be incorporated into your daily routine without too much difficulty. Doing so would insure its longevity. Varying your exercise regimen will also help in breaking the monotony and encourage you to continue. An adequate exercise regimen should consist of at least thirty (30) minutes of exercise three to five times a week, at least every other day. An alternative method as suggested by the Surgeon General is that "all adults should accumulate 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity on most, if not all days of the week. The key words are "accumulate" and "moderate-intensity." Accumulate means that you can do 10-15 minutes at a time and repeat that a couple of times throughout the day; for example, 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes at lunch, and 10 minutes around dinner. Moderate intensity is equivalent to feeling "warm and slightly out of breath" when you do it."

The natural aging process increases the chances of getting high blood pressure but participating in some form of exercise can reduce this risk. A single workout may reduce your blood pressure for the whole day and exercising regularly, consistently keeps the pressure down. It’s a personal choice as to what type of exercise one should follow but whatever type you choose you should first consult your doctor and get his/her recommendations, particularly if you are taking medication for high blood pressure. Self monitoring (heart rate monitor) during exercise is also advised. If there’s discomfort in the chest, jaw or arm or you experience dizziness or severe shortage of breath, stop all exercises immediately and notify your doctor, if these symptoms persist call 911.

Facts on High Blood Pressure In more than 90% of cases the cause of hypertension is not known Nearly 100 million people in the USA suffer from high blood pressure, a startling figure in terms of the total population Processed foods contain very high sodium levels, which is a big contributor to hypertension Your doctor needs to guess and experiment to get you on the "right" medication, as there are side effects involved with many of them which can include permanent organ damage Almost 10 million people worldwide die each year from untreated hypertension Most cases of hypertension can be successfully treated with natural methods These facts paint a picture of a condition which is not being adequately addressed by many people. Indeed, many people who suffer from the condition do not realize they have a problem until some damage has been done. They have not intervened early enough. It has been referred to as the silent killer because of this! Sometimes people die from it and didn’t even know they had a problem! Medications are prescribed in too many cases! This is how doctors have been trained to control the problem. And controlling the problem is all that medications can do. They work to control the pressure rather than addressing the root cause. This is a flawed approach, and it is indicative of the over-reliance of the medical industry on chemicals and prescriptions. A much better approach is to treat the condition naturally. Imagine startling your doctor at your next visit with normal blood pressure readings without medication. You can do this. It involves only a few simple steps and a commitment to your health! Diet is a very important aspect. Some foods and additives are bad for you and contribute to the condition. Yet others are beneficial. So all you need to do is educate yourself and adjust your eating plan accordingly. Surely that is worth a try for the sake of your health! Increasing the amount of natural foods and eliminating processed foods goes a long way to achieving this goal. Even a small amount of excess weight can have a startling impact on your hypertension. Eating right will go a long way to addressing this, and some simple exercise like walking, cycling, or swimming will take care of the rest.
Pharmacy online explains you that uncontrolled hypertension leads to many complications that prove to be fatal. The end organ or target organ damage (TOD) that the hypertension inflicts on the body remains the benchmark of the whole complication and its treatment. The arterial hypertension can cause target organ damage of the cardiac, peripheral vascular, cerebrovascular, ocular or renal origin. The premature deaths caused by hypertension and the risks of the above mentioned complications remain in a direct relation with the elevation in blood pressures. The risks factors in the development of coronary heart disease and stroke are all additive when the patient is suffering from hypertension. The risk stratification is based on the presence of TOD and clinical cardiovascular disease (CCD) along with others factors such as smoking, diabetes and dyslipedemia. A study demonstrated the relation between risks associated with hypertension and the men below target organ damage. In men below 46 years of age, a diastolic blood pressure greater than 90 mm Hg increases deaths to a rate of 1.6 times the rate for men without risk factors. WHAT DAMAGES CAN BE CAUSED TO OUR BODY BY UNCONTROLLED HYPERTENSION? The complications that hypertension specifically causes to the body organs are discussed below. Atherosclerosis Damage can also be caused by increased and uncontrolled blood pressure to your arteries. This result in hardening and thickening of your arteries and this is called atherosclerosis. The atherosclerosis of arteries can lead to a heart attack, stroke or other complications. Aneurysm Increased blood pressure on your blood vessels tends them to weaken and bulge, forming an aneurysm. But if an aneurysm ruptures, it can be life-threatening. Heart failure Your heart muscle thickens to pump blood against the higher pressure in your vessels, which is called hypertrophy. Eventually, the thickened cardiac muscle may have a hard time pumping enough blood to meet your body’s needs. This can lead to heart failure. Stroke A blocked or ruptured blood vessel in your brain can be the result of hypertension uncontrolled for a long time. High blood pressure in the arteries that leads to your brain can cause either slowing the blood flow to your brain or cause a blood vessel in your brain to burst, thus causing a stroke. Renal impairment Hypertension also causes weakened and narrowed blood vessels in your kidneys. This can prevent the kidneys from functioning normally. This leads to a compromised kidney functions that lead to further renal failure if not treated on time. Ocular damage If hypertension remains uncontrolled, it causes thickened, narrowed or torn blood vessels in the eyes resulting in vision loss and retinopathy. Metabolic syndrome The metabolic syndrome is a cluster of disorders of your body’s metabolism. These include increased high triglycerides, low high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high insulin levels and an increased waist circumference.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, occurs when the systolic (upper) blood pressure reading is 140 or higher consistently, and the diastolic (lower) number is 90 or higher consistently. The blood pressure is a measurement of the amount of force of the blood exerted by the heart as well as the condition of the arteries themselves. There are two main types of hypertension that a person may be diagnosed with, both of which can be helped with acupuncture and Chinese medicine. (However, it is important to note that if you have hypertension or suspect that you do, you should be evaluated by your doctor to ensure that it is controlled and monitored because it can be a life threatening condition.) The two types of hypertension are: 1)Essential hypertension – occurs without an identifiable cause 2)Secondary hypertension – due to diet, a specific lifestyle habit, or as a side effect of medication Blood pressure can be affected by many different factors, including, but not limited to: •Diet •Hormone levels •Condition of your kidneys •Condition of your arteries •Other medical conditions such as diabetes •Family history •Stress Hypertension can be a dangerous condition because there may not be any symptoms, and is commonly referred to as the "silent killer." It is also considered a risk factor for stroke, heart attack, kidney damage, and blindness. Only when hypertension is severe will there be any symptoms such as nose bleeds, headaches, vision changes, chest pain, fatigue, ear buzzing, or an irregular heartbeat. The conventional treatment for hypertension includes: •Regular exercise •Quitting smoking •Dietary changes •Prescription medications According to Chinese medicine, there are a few different patterns of disharmony that can cause hypertension: 1)Liver Yang Rising 2)Phlegm-Fire 3)Yin Vacuity 4)Blood Stasis Any of the above patterns, or combination of these patterns, can lead to hypertension. There are many acupuncture points on the body, feet, ear, and head that can help lower blood pressure. Patients may experience a decrease in blood pressure within as little as twenty minutes after beginning treatment. It is also very common for patients to be taking a Western medication while pursuing acupuncture treatments. Generally, it is very safe to do acupuncture while taking a medication, just make sure to let your practitioner know the medications and dosages you are taking. Additionally, there are many Chinese herbal formulas that can help lower blood pressure and get it under control. Dietary changes may also be suggested by the practitioner to help you naturally lower your blood pressure with foods you can eat on a regular basis.

(However, it is important to note that if you have hypertension or suspect that you do, you should be evaluated by your doctor to ensure that it is controlled and monitored because it can be a life threatening condition.)

The two types of hypertension are:

1)Essential hypertension – occurs without an identifiable cause

2)Secondary hypertension – due to diet, a specific lifestyle habit, or as a side effect of medication

Blood pressure can be affected by many different factors, including, but not limited to:

•Diet

•Hormone levels

•Condition of your kidneys

•Condition of your arteries

•Other medical conditions such as diabetes

•Family history

•Stress

Hypertension can be a dangerous condition because there may not be any symptoms, and is commonly referred to as the "silent killer." It is also considered a risk factor for stroke, heart attack, kidney damage, and blindness. Only when hypertension is severe will there be any symptoms such as nose bleeds, headaches, vision changes, chest pain, fatigue, ear buzzing, or an irregular heartbeat.

The conventional treatment for hypertension includes:

•Regular exercise

•Quitting smoking

•Dietary changes

•Prescription medications

According to Chinese medicine, there are a few different patterns of disharmony that can cause hypertension:

1)Liver Yang Rising

2)Phlegm-Fire

3)Yin Vacuity

4)Blood Stasis

Any of the above patterns, or combination of these patterns, can lead to hypertension.

Apart from essential secondary and remediable hypertension, drugs can also be the main cause of hypertension. But in many cases this occurs in persons taking hypertension causing medications without any physician or pharmacist consent. This is because these medications are generally available over the counter, and can be purchased at any pharmacy outlet or through a pharmacy online service. Drugs that can cause hypertension: The medications that can cause hypertension include oral contraceptives, sympathomimetics, amphetamines, NSAIDs, steroids, caffeine and MAOIs. The most common class of drug that causes hypertension is the oral contraceptives. It is a rough estimate that around 5% of the hypertension patients are having it due to oral use of contraceptives. However this is not so intense in many cases, women may using contraceptives show a small measurable increase in their blood pressures. That it is around 10/5 mmHg increase in the blood pressures during the first two years of oral use of contraceptive pills. The common factors that cause an increased incidence of oral contraceptive induced hypertension include age over 35 years, a family history of hypertension, obesity and smoking. The latter two of these factors can be modified, but the former cannot be altered. In this hypertension, the main role is that of estrogen although the type and amount of progestin also seems to be influencing the effect on blood pressure. This is thought to be caused through stimulation of the renin angiotensin-aldosterone system and the retention of sodium and fluid in the body. This type of hypertension is usually reversible within 1 to 8 months after the termination of therapy. The best way to prevent the oral contraceptive induced hypertension is to check the blood pressure every 6 months and by using the smallest possible dose of the contraceptive agents. Women who are at a higher risk of getting hypertension need to use alternative ways of contraception, for which they have to consult the doctor, pharmacist or the pharmacy online counseling. Other medications that are important in this aspect include non prescription sympathomimetics. The usage of these agents especially ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, phenylpropanolamine and phenylephrine may cause hypertension. These are available in many medications available as OTC products and can be purchased through pharmacy online without any prescription but should be asked for the correct use from the pharmacists. Especially phenylpropanolamine can cause an increase in the blood pressure and may also cause intracranial hemorrhage. A double dose of this drug can increase the bp peaking to around 175/100 mmHg. The effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on elevated blood pressure are well demonstrated, as these elevate the supine blood pressure by up to 5 mmHg. These can also antagonize the effects of beta blockers, diuretics and vasodilators. Others that cause hypertension are Cyclosporine is also a medicine that may elevate the blood pressure by vasoconstriction and sodium retention. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors and steroids may also cause hyper elevation of the blood pressures in many users. Caffeine present in many OTC medications can also cause [...]
