Women, Hormones and Heart Disease

Today, a heart disease and stroke is the number one killer in the world. Moreover, on menopause age, women have two until three times risk increases against this disease. Why do this happen?

The death caused by heart disease and strokes are experienced more women than men. As much as 38% of women died within one year after her first heart attack and men only 25%. In the same year, WHO are also conducted a survey with the astonishing enough result. Apparently, in the developing countries they found 50% mortality for over 50 years of age due to heart disease and stroke.

The women aged 50 years old and over have a risk of heart attack associated with decreased levels of estrogen hormone. The estrogen in women’s body can protect her from heart disease and stroke.

Women’s life affected by three phases namely children phase, reproductive period, and menopause phase. When reproductive period, she has very high estrogen levels, so she can protect her selves from heart attacks and strokes. Obviously it is different, when women have entered menopause period, estrogen levels in her body decreases, which means that protection in her body are decreases too. A woman, who experienced first attack, has a higher risk for death.

Heart disease and stroke in women are more dangerous because often there are no specific symptoms.  In general, the heart attack’s symptom is pain in the chest.  Well, at women signed by discomfort in the arms, shoulders, back, neck, jaw and stomach. Sometimes the arouse symptoms are shortness of breath without feeling pain in the chest.

Although there are not the symptoms, you should diligently go to the doctor to find out your body’s condition. Healthy heart and stroke are closely linked with the wrong lifestyle. Risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and obesity, lack of moving, diabetes mellitus, family history, and stress. Stress is the body’s reaction when offending a stimulus.  That stimulus is disturb the balance of physical, mental and emotional.
